The History of Religion

What is religion?This definition is so broad mainly religion is a belief system. The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power eg. a personal God or gods.

What are beliefs?A level of a commitment to something that we feel is true and valid. Acceptance of a certain idea, or that something exists.

Define the following:

·         AnimismThe belief that humans and animals have a soul or spirit and that we are all related to the idea of a force that makes something more or ‘come alive’ and spirits were assumed to be responsible for things that happened in nature.  

·         PolytheismThe belief in many Gods.

·         MonotheismThe belief in only one God.

·         PantheismBelief that everything is part of one God.

·         Agnosticism Uncertainty about God or Gods.

·         AtheismBelief in no Gods.
